I'm the one in the group that always gets the most attention from mosquitoes. My husband does not get bitten and I end up with giant welts all over my body.
I opened the door to our patio the other day with the intention of taking the baby outside for her afternoon bottle. BUT...there were mosquitoes everywhere! At first, I ran back inside. Then, I ventured out and hunted for their source- standing water, rotting fruit, whatever. I found nothing. So, then I concocted my MOSQUITO BE GONE spray and sprayed the hell out of the patio. By the time the baby was done with her bottle, the mosquitoes had vanished. Huzzah!
Recipe and Directions:
What you will need:
-One Spray Bottle
-3 tbls vanilla extract
-20 drops of essential oils (please see note below)
-1/4 cup lemon juice
-Water
Combine all of the ingredients in the spray bottle and then fill the rest of the way with water. That's it! Spray away! You can spray directly onto skin or clothes, or just around the area that you want to protect (I spray my table, doorway, and outdoor chairs, for example). Repeat as needed.
Note:
All of these EO's are great for deterring mosquitoes. The ones that are bolded are particularly effective, IMO:
lavender, peppermint, lemongrass, geranium, eucalyptus, lemon eucalyptus, citronella, basil, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, lemon, clove, cedarwood
